Kate + Austin // a Richmond Black Pine in-home engagement

One of the things I missed the most throughout restricted 2020 shooting was in-home sessions. So I was jumping up and down with excitement when Kate + Austin mentioned that they had a very specific vision for their engagement session in Richmond. They found a rowhouse in Oregon Hill with incredibly rad gothic-inspired styling called the Black Pine and we basically danced around and laughed in the hip surroundings for a couple hours.

The Black Pine’s super moody light gave me some unusual & challenging shapes to play with and I’m proud of how these final images turned out, including my favorite personal interpretation of American Gothic featuring a dinner fork. The juxtaposition of elaborate decor and the fact that we spent this entire session telling ridiculous stories was a perfect return to in-home engagement shooting and a lovely note to end my 2020 on.
